What 穟 means
It describes a full, flourishing grain ear. The Shijing (Book of Songs) poem “Shengmin” uses “禾役穟穟” to praise crops in a farming-and-sacrifice passage. Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese character dictionary, records the grain-ear sense; later dictionaries add clustered flowers or fruit and link 穟 to 穗.
Literary and dictionary-like; ordinary use sounds deliberate.
Use 穗 for ordinary writing; keep 穟 for its literary register.
