What 竤 means
竤 is a variant of 竑, tied to measuring and the sense “broad.”
A passage in 考工記, an early Chinese text about crafts within 周禮, uses 竑 for measuring a wheel spoke's width so the wheel can carry a heavy load. Later dictionaries also give 竑 the sense “broad” or “extensive,” including a Ming-era example about a wide-ranging argument.
The Taiwan Ministry of Education's variant dictionary says that, as of 2024, 竤 does not appear in 說文解字, an early character dictionary. It traces the form to 龍龕手鏡, then 四聲篇海 and later dictionaries, treating 竤 as an evolved written variant.
An uncommon written variant associated with historical and dictionary contexts.
