11599/20992

What 筎 means

It names bamboo fibers scraped for filling gaps.

A 2011 study records 筎 in southwestern Mandarin for bamboo shavings stuffed into boat leaks.

As of 2026, the earliest dictionary record is in Yupian, an early Chinese character dictionary; the older Shuowen omits 筎, and Jiyun also lists it. Medical texts use 竹筎 for scraped bamboo in remedies; Japanese traditional-medicine references list 竹茹 as another name. Older wording uses 茹 and 袽 for boat caulking.
