What 紷 means
It names silk floss and finely processed silk.
The earliest known dictionary entry appears in 玉篇, a Chinese dictionary compiled around 543; the earlier dictionary 說文解字 does not record 紷.
Later dictionaries 廣韻 and 集韻 preserve the textile sense and also gloss 紷 as floss. They distinguish finely processed silk, 紷, from finely processed cloth, 繐. In traditional character analysis, 糸 is the thread-and-silk component on the left, while 令 supplies the sound. 𦅫 is recorded as a variant form.
Archaic, specialized textile vocabulary; suited to textile history, dictionary quotations, or character lookup.
