What 綈 means
It means thick, smooth silk fabric.
The Guanzi, an old Chinese work on government, treats 綈 as regional cloth made, worn, and traded. Shuowen Jiezi, an early dictionary, defines thick woven silk; later lexicons also give falling-tone tì for a coarser silk-cotton cloth.
The Shiji, an old Chinese history, links 綈袍 with the old bond between Fan Ju and Xu Jia. Its left component 糹 is the silk radical, also used in textile terms 繒, 綺, and 練.
Literary and historical; a standalone fabric term.
Bare 綈 names cloth; the old-bond allusion is in 綈袍.
