What 緇 means
Its first sense is a dyed textile; the religious sense came later.
Dictionaries define it as black silk; dyeing texts make it the deepest black. In the Shijing, 緇衣 names a formal black robe. Oracle and bronze inscriptions lack 緇; Warring States Chu slips preserve 䊷.
Chinese Buddhist dress made 緇衣 and 緇流 monk labels by the Eastern Jin and Shi Zhao. Japanese Buddhist vocabulary uses 緇衣 for a dark robe or monk; 涅而不緇 means stained black.
Literary or Buddhist—not ordinary black.
For plain black, use 黑; 緇 can sound religious.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
