What 繮 means
It means a horse's reins or tether. It wrote practical horse tack and control. The earliest source used here is the Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi, compiled around 100 CE; Yupian and Guangyun preserve that sense.
A Han text turns reins into a metaphor for reputation's restraints. 繮 is a variant of 韁; 缰 is the simplified counterpart.
Variant and historical; use 韁 in ordinary traditional Chinese.
