Chinese character 终

It marks an end, finish, or final point. 终点 is an endpoint, 终日 means “all day,” and 终于 means “finally”; the whole word sets the shade.

Late Shang oracle-bone inscriptions (c. 1250–1045 BCE)—divination records on bone or shell—show an ancestor graph shared with 冬 (“winter”). One analysis reads it as tied cord ends; later, 糸 marked the ending sense.

Japanese kanji (characters used in Japanese writing) and Korean hanja (Chinese-origin characters used in Korean) also use traditional Chinese 終 for end or finality, with different readings.
