What 绩 means
绩 means achievement, results, or merit. 成绩 means grades or results, 功绩 merit, and 业绩 work results.
《说文解字》, a Chinese character dictionary, defines 績 as making thread by joining fibers. The form appears in bamboo manuscripts from Chu, an ancient Chinese state; older texts also use it for completed work and merit.
Formal when used for merit or performance.
成绩 can be poor; it does not praise by itself.
