What 羙 means
It is a written variant of 美, meaning “beautiful” or “good.”
The Eastern Han Hengfang Stele, a stone monument, records 羙 in 168 CE. A 2024 Taiwan Ministry of Education dictionary explains it as an evolved spelling: scribes mistook the lower 大 in 美 for 火.
It developed through writing rather than being invented as a separate sign.
Historical and uncommon in ordinary writing.
