What 羸 means

Thin, frail, or worn out.

羸兵 means weakened troops; older uses also describe frail people and shabby objects. 羸其角 uses 羸 for “entangle,” a classical loan linked to 纍 and 虆. Qin bamboo writing slips attest an early form from the late Warring States. The Han-era dictionary Shuowen assigns 羊 the meaning role and 𣎆 the sound.

1

Why does 羸 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
