What 翚 means
翚 means swift flight or a five-colored pheasant.
The Shijing line belongs to a poem about building a royal hall. Its bright, uplifted eaves are likened to a pheasant taking flight, so the line praises architecture rather than naming a bird.
Later lexicons keep both senses: fast flight and the pheasant itself. In 鸟革翚飞 the same image becomes set praise for a winglike roofline. 翚 is the mainland counterpart of traditional 翬.
Literary and specialist; use it in a quotation or with a gloss.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 翚 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
