What 菚 means
The dictionary gloss is 草名: “a name for a kind of grass.”
A 2024 entry in Taiwan’s Ministry of Education Dictionary of Chinese Character Variants says the early Chinese character dictionary 說文解字 does not record 菚. It cites 集韻, a Chinese rhyme dictionary organized by sound, compiled in 1039 during the Song dynasty, for this gloss.
