Chinese character 葆

In 永葆青春, 葆 means “preserve”; the phrase has a fixed spelling.

The earliest dated forms appear in Qin manuscripts from the late Warring States and Qin period in ancient China. The later Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, defines 葆 as lush grass. Other texts use it for feathered canopies, concealment and protection. Older records also use 葆 for 宝 (“treasure”), 堡 (“fort”), 褓 (“a baby’s wrap”), 褒 (“broad”) and 包 (“wrap”).
