What 蝓 means
Slug, and only inside 蛞蝓. Alone 蝓 looks like dictionary shrapnel: Chinese readers expect kuòyú, Japanese readers expect なめくじ, usually in kana. Use the full slug word 蛞蝓, or kana ナメクジ, and save 蝸牛 for the shelled snail.
