What 詹 means
It is an old word and a Chinese surname.
The old Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi (說文解字) glosses 詹 as “many words”; other senses include “reach” and “administer.” In China’s Qin and Han dynasties, 詹事 managed the empress’s and heir’s households.
The earliest form appears in a manuscript from Chu, an ancient Chinese state, during the Warring States period. Later manuscript, inscription, and print forms span Han, Tang, and Song periods. Its construction is unsettled; “many words” is not a proven origin. Surname accounts differ, naming a Zhou land grant or Chu official 詹尹.
Classical senses and surnames are separate uses.
Do not gloss a person’s surname as “many words.”
