What 謥 means
It describes rushed speech, most clearly in 謥詷.
In the two-character expression 謥詷, 謥 contributes the idea of speaking in haste; the whole expression presents the talk as hasty and lightweight.
In the late 3rd century, the Chinese history Records of the Three Kingdoms (三國志) treats hurried talk as a poor qualification for an official. In the 5th century, the Book of the Later Han (後漢書) uses 謥詷 for the light, hurried speech of people who hovered around the court.
Around 543, 玉篇, an early Chinese character dictionary, glossed 謥詷 as “urgent speech.” These early examples use 謥 in a literary criticism of hurried talk.
Formal and literary; it reads as criticism of hurried talk in classical texts.
It criticizes rushed talk; it does not praise quick wit.
