What 譃 means
It means false or boastful speech.
Use it for speech that is false or exaggerated, including a lie. Sent alone, it could be a pointed accusation; because the character is obscure, the recipient may not recognize that meaning. The surrounding words matter.
An Eastern Han-era Chinese character dictionary, 說文解字, records older 謣 with the gloss 妄言 (“false speech”). The later Song-era dictionary 集韻 treats 譃 as an equivalent form. Chinese dictionaries gloss it as boastful talk; Japanese references give senses of deceiving or lying.
Is 譃 the same as 謣?
It is a later form in the same false-speech family.
Both start with 言, the Chinese component associated with speech. The right-hand parts distinguish the glyphs: 謣 has 雩, while 譃 has 虛. Historical dictionaries connect them to the same false-speech word, but the forms are not interchangeable in every quotation or transcription.
Bookish and archaic; it fits historical discussion or a specialist gloss better than a casual modern accusation.
Sent alone, its rarity may hide the accusation.
