What 譳 means
It describes speech that will not come out clearly. The 玉篇, an early Chinese dictionary, glosses 䛠譳 as inability to speak; a note on Han Yu’s poem 南山詩, by a poet of the Tang dynasty, quotes it for unclear speech.
Later dictionaries, including 集韻 and 康熙字典, repeat the pair. A Vietnamese dictionary of historical characters indexes 譳 under nậu and glosses it as mumbling or failing to speak.
