What 诒 means
Context decides between “pass on” and “deceive.” Mandarin yí (rising tone) means handing down or giving; dài (falling tone) means deception. 诒厥孙谋 leaves plans for descendants; 骨肉相诒 means deceiving kin.
詒 appears in a Warring States inscription on the bronze vessel Zhongshan King Ding; one reading ties it to refusing a death-sentence pardon. The Book of Songs (poetry), Zuo Tradition (chronicle), and Songs of Chu (poetry) use it for a legacy, a letter, and a gift. 言 signals speech (shortened to 讠 in 诒); 台 hints at sound.
Its examples have a classical, literary tone.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
