What 诲 means
It means “to teach, instruct, or admonish.” Say it huì, fourth tone in Mandarin. Early examples come from Western Zhou bronze inscriptions, a kind of cast-metal text, with one Western Zhou reconstruction pointing to teaching ritual observance.
In classical Chinese, 诲 can shift toward “invite” or “induce” when conduct is framed as causing harm. That old moralizing warning is historical language, not modern safety advice. Simplified 诲 is traditional 誨’s counterpart; Japanese dictionaries keep the same instructional core.
Formal and literary; alone, 诲 can sound like a deliberate lecture.
Do not quote the old warning formula as neutral safety advice.

1Why does 诲 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
