What 谡 means
In classical Chinese, 谡 means “to rise” or “stand up.”
The early Chinese glossary 《尔雅》, compiled across the Warring States–early Han period, explains 謖、興 with 起 (“rise”). 《礼记·祭统》, a Book of Rites passage about sacrifice, uses 尸谡 for the moment when the person representing an ancestor rises at the rite’s close. This is an early written witness, not proof of the character’s first appearance.
Why does 谡 appear as 謖 or 谡谡?
謖 is the traditional Chinese form of simplified 谡.
谡然 describes a composed, orderly manner. Doubling the character in 谡谡 gives literary senses of upright force or wind moving through trees; context decides which.

1Why does 谡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
