What 賖 means
It means buying or selling on credit, with payment due later.
The early dictionary 說文解字, compiled around 100 CE, defines 賖 as 貰買也, meaning buying on credit.
In classical writing, it can also describe something far away, a long stretch of time, or a delay. Nearby words show whether 賖 concerns a purchase, distance, or time.
Why does my keyboard suggest 賒?
賒 became the form later favored in writing.
Taiwan's Ministry of Education variant entry from 2024 traces 賖 to the earlier dictionary tradition and says later writing favored 賒. It also records older disagreement over which form counted as standard.
The written parts on the right differ: 賖 has 余, while 賒 has 佘. The Simplified Chinese counterpart of 賒 is 赊.
Historical or source-faithful; choosing 賖 is a deliberate spelling choice.
When exact spelling matters, keep 賖 distinct from 賒; their right-hand parts differ.

1Why does 賖 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
