Chinese character 趃

趃 describes running in long strides; another dictionary reading is the way someone walks. Taiwan's character dictionary also lists it as a variant of 跌 and recognizes it independently, so don't assume every meaning of 跌 applies.

What 趃 means

It describes a brisk run with big strides.

The earliest dictionary citation for 趃 is in the Yupian (玉篇), a Chinese character dictionary compiled in 543. It gives 大走也 (“running in long strides”); later dictionaries also record 走貌 (“the manner of walking”).
