What 躩 means
躩 means quick, controlled footwork, and sometimes a leap.
In the Analects, an early Chinese book of sayings and court scenes, 「君召使摈,色勃如也,足躩如也」 describes a summoned court attendant moving with quick, respectful steps. A traditional gloss, 盤辟, means formal turning or circling of the feet. The passage places the movement in court behavior.
Later citations widen the motion: a Han dynasty text uses 躩 for jumping; the Zhuangzi tradition uses 躩步 for fast walking; and a Tang dynasty poem uses 躩躍 for repeated leaps in combat. The early Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi analyzes 躩 as 足, the foot-related meaning component, plus 矍, the sound component.
What if someone sends 躩 alone?
The glyph alone does not identify the scene.
A single character does not show which passage or movement the sender has in mind. If they are quoting an old text, the full phrase is what identifies the scene.
In small or dense type, the intricate right side can be easy to confuse with 躍. Check the components before deciding which character you are reading.
Literary and classical; it fits a quotation, gloss, or historical text better than casual conversation.
Do not substitute 躍 without checking the right-hand component.

1Why does 躩 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
