What 軨 means
It names a crossbar in an old carriage’s wooden lattice. The Shuowen Jiezi (說文解字), a Chinese dictionary compiled in the Han period, defines 軨 as a horizontal crosspiece in a carriage lattice. A passage of the Chu Ci (楚辭), an ancient Chinese poetry collection, places it beside 軾, another carriage part. The rails formed the carriage’s front and sides and helped block wind and dust. Later lexicons also record vehicle senses such as a wheel, an axle ornament, or a carriage.
What does 軨 mean when someone sends it?
Use the sentence around it to choose the sense. In a classical text, 軨 points to the carriage lattice; in Cantonese automotive writing, it points to a wheel rim. A December 2012 ABC Cantonese extract records 軚軨 in examples about changing tire rims. If someone sends 軨 alone, ask what language or sentence it came from; the glyph by itself cannot settle which vehicle sense they intend.

1Why does 軨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
