What 輬 means
It names a carriage designed for reclining. The Eastern Han dictionary Shuowen Jiezi defines it that way. The classical Chinese poetry collection Chu Ci also uses 輬 in 軒輬, a term for a light carriage.
An older dictionary separates two designs: 輬 opened at the side and was cooler; 轀 was closed and warmer. The paired term 轀輬 later referred to a funerary carriage.
