What 迊 means
It can mean “go around” or “meet or welcome,” by two variant paths.
An inscription on a bronze vessel, recorded as 迊子壺, has been dated to the Warring States period. Its reading is debated: a paleographic note also identifies the graph as 帀. This is early evidence, not a settled origin story.
The written form combines 帀, associated with a circuit, and 辵, a component associated with movement. That fits the “go around” reading, while leaving the second variant path to explain separately.
Later records preserve two distinct variant paths: 匝, meaning to go around or extend throughout, and 迎, meaning to meet or welcome. A second-stage simplification draft from 1977 proposed 迊 for 迎. A record from Silla, an ancient Korean kingdom, uses 迊 in a rank title in 661 CE; other witnesses write 迎 or 匝.
Someone sent me 迊. How should I read it?
Treat it as a historical text variant; context decides its intended reading.
If it arrives by itself, ask what text it came from. Until you have that context, the safest label is simply “historical variant.”
Archaic and technical: it has the feel of a historical or dictionary form.
Without context, don't assume it means “welcome.”

Questions people ask
1Why does 迊 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
