What 逑 means
It has two strands: partnering in phrases and older “gathering” glosses.
《说文》, an early Chinese dictionary, glosses 逑 as “gathering,” with 辵 as the meaning component and 求 as the sound component. The reading of a bronze inscription was corrected from 逨 to 逑; an occurrence on a Warring States bamboo slip also belongs to its early record. The classical phrase 君子好逑 uses 逑 for a fitting mate. Japanese references retain “gather” and “companion” senses.
Literary and archaic; it sounds like a quotation or deliberate allusion, not everyday chat.
A lone 逑 is not enough to read as a proposal; the partner sense appears in a phrase, so use the surrounding words.
