Chinese character 逵

逵 is a classical Chinese character for a branching road. In Mandarin it sounds roughly like “kway,” with a rising tone. Classical texts also give it a waterway sense; in a personal name, keep it as written.

What 逵 means

It names a road where routes meet. The ancient Chinese poetry collection 《诗经》 uses it in 中逵; the early character dictionary 《说文解字》 explains it as a road reached from nine directions. Later classics use 逵穴 for a passage beneath the water.

Literary for roads; everyday Mandarin uses 道 or 路.

In a name or quote, don't replace 逵 with 馗.

Why does 逵 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
