What 邥 means
It chiefly appears in the old place-name 邥垂.
Mandarin reads it shěn, roughly “shen” with a falling-then-rising tone. The Zuo Zhuan, an early Chinese chronicle, says Zhou's Gān Chù (甘歜) defeated the Rong people at 邥垂 in 610 BCE; a dictionary places the site near Luoyang, Henan.
Chinese dictionaries list 邥 as a variant of 沈 for old state names or surnames, not a general substitute.
