What 郲 means

郲 names an old settlement. The Spring and Autumn Annals records Lu and Zheng meeting before an attack on neighboring Xu. Its commentary, the Zuozhuan, calls the place 郲; the Annals writes 時來.

In the Warring States period, inscriptions on a coin and bronze weapon link 郲 and 郲氏 to the same place. Dictionaries also record 郲 as a surname.

Historical proper name; context separates place, state, and surname readings.

Alone, 郲 does not identify which name is meant.

1

Why does 郲 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
