What 郸 means
郸 was made to write a place name.
Its traditional form 鄲 pairs 單, a hint for the sound dan, with 邑, the side meaning “town or place.” You meet it in 邯郸 (Hándān, a city in Hebei) and 郸城 (Dānchéng, a county in Henan), rather than as a free-standing word.

郸 is the second character in 邯郸.
In classical writing 鄲 could also be borrowed to write 但, “only”; that use is historical, not modern. Do not replace it with 丹: same Mandarin syllable, different character, wrong place name.
