What 鄽 means
鄽 is a variant of 廛 for a dwelling or market quarter.
The Han-era Chinese character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi defines 廛 as a dwelling allotted to a household. The earliest known record of 鄽 is in the Liang-era dictionary Yupian, where it is glossed “market.” 鄽居 means a residential quarter; a Tang-era essay uses 鄽肆 in a discussion of trade.
Its literary, lexicographic register suits historical or specialist Chinese writing.
