What 釬 means
It names an arm guard and, later, soldering. The earliest catalogued form I found is a Chu seal-script form from the Warring States period; later Shuowen forms show evolution, not a single inventor.
Shuowen separates the battle guard from an archer's left-arm sleeve. Other dictionaries add soldering flux, welding, and a metal cap under a spear or dagger-axe shaft; 釬 connects with 焊, and 銲 is a recorded variant.
As of 2026, 釬 alone in a message has no reliable mood reading. It is text, not an emoji; font choice can change its shape.

1Why does 釬 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
