What 銚 means
In Chinese, 銚 names a pot or farm tool. The Eastern Han dictionary Shuowen Jiezi records both; compiled around 100 CE, it was submitted in 121 CE. The older Chinese books Zhuangzi and Guanzi use 銚 for a large hoe. In Mandarin, yáo (rising pitch) means hoe; diào (falling pitch), a handled pot.
Japanese 銚子 is a sake vessel. The Japanese dictionary Wamyō Ruijushō, compiled in 931–938, glosses it as さしなべ, a small spouted pot. The name later covered formal long-handled sake pitchers, early Edo refill pots for direct pouring, and, from the Meiji period, small heated tokkuri flasks. Sake is a rice-brewed Japanese drink.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
