What 銻 means
Read it as antimony in Chinese technical text. 銻 is the element label, not a reaction, emblem, or emoji. The earliest evidence located for the form is the Han-period Shuowen Jiezi, where it appears in 鎕銻, a name for a stone or gem. That older entry does not prove that ancient writers had isolated modern antimony.
By 1868, Chinese chemistry writing already listed 銻 for antimony. In 1871, 化學鑑原 described the wider naming rule: take the opening sound of a Western element name and add a category radical. Here 金 marks a metal and 弟 supplies the sound, echoing Stibium. The modern chemistry sense is therefore a reuse and standardization, not a one-off invention of the glyph.
Chinese standards split the reading and script: Taiwan's dictionary gives 銻 as tì, while Mainland Chinese writes the simplified 锑 and reads tī. Japan records 銻 as a kanji for antimony, but the National Diet Library's subject authority uses the katakana name アンチモン. The referent stays the same; the audience and writing system change.
Why does 銻 look wrong?
A blank square is a font problem, not a new symbol. 銻 is encoded text drawn by a font; it has no emoji artwork layer that can vary by vendor. If the glyph is missing, switch to a font with CJK coverage or copy it from the palette above. A box means the glyph was not drawn.
Technical and reference-like; a standalone use points to chemistry, translation, or a dictionary.
Do not treat 锑 as a different element: it is the simplified form of 銻.

3Questions people ask
2Is 銻 the same as 锑?
Yes. They are traditional and simplified forms for the same antimony term; the choice follows the writing system, not the chemistry.
Why does 銻 show as a box?
A font issue. The font lacks the glyph. This is a text-rendering failure, not a platform emoji variation.
