What 鋺 means
A metal bowl; in weighing, a balance pan. Japanese references read the bowl sense かなまり or まり. Here 金 identifies the metal vessel.
In Japan, museum records place copper bowls of this type in 6th-century contexts, with wider use in the 7th–8th centuries for elite dining, Buddhist offerings and burials. Museum accounts trace the Chinese-style vessel through Baekje, an ancient Korean kingdom, into Japan. Older Chinese dictionaries 玉篇 and 集韻 preserve 鋺; Taiwan's Ministry of Education variant dictionary says, as of 2024, that the earlier Chinese character dictionary 說文解字 does not record it.
Which bowl form fits?
Japanese references distinguish bowl spellings by material, with separate forms for metal, wood and fired ware. Taiwan's Ministry of Education variant dictionary also links 鋺 with 碗, so the Japanese material rule does not govern every Chinese text.
Historical and specialist; reserve it for a literal vessel reference or quoted source text.
Alone, it can look like a typo; ask what vessel or text is meant.
