What 錀 means
Older dictionaries give it “metal”; chemistry uses it for roentgenium.
The Yupian, an early Chinese dictionary, records the metal sense; it was compiled around 543. As of 2026, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education dictionary says 錀 is absent from Shuowen Jiezi, an earlier Chinese dictionary. The Guangyun, another Chinese pronunciation dictionary, records a second reading, fēn, in 兔奄錀, an old term for a specialized key.
Traditional Chinese chemical writing uses 錀 for roentgenium, element 111. In 2007, China approved 𬬭 as its simplified counterpart; the two forms name the same element under different regional writing conventions.
This is an archaic dictionary character and a specialized chemical name, not ordinary casual prose.
