What 鎡 means
It names an old farm tool, chiefly inside compounds.
The earliest known written use appears in the Mencius, an early Chinese philosophical text from the Warring States period. Its compound 鎡基 names a digging implement; in the passage, the tool anchors a lesson about timing: owning it does not make the growing season ready.
The Shuowen Jiezi, an early dictionary of Chinese characters, also records 欘 as an old implement term. Later dictionaries describe 鎡 as a form of 鼒 written with the metal component 金; 鼒 names a small lidded vessel. The tool name also has spellings such as 鎡錤, 茲基 and 茲其.
How do I type 鎡?
Use Mandarin Pinyin zi, then select 鎡.
A Mandarin Pinyin keyboard turns a pronunciation typed in Latin letters into character choices. For 鎡, type zi (read zī, with a high, level tone) and choose the character; many characters share that syllable. Cangjie is a shape-based Chinese input method; its code for 鎡 is 金廿女戈.
Classical and specialist: 鎡 fits old tool compounds and dictionary entries; used alone, it reads like a historical term.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
