What 鎪 means
鎪 is a verb for engraving or carving. An early Chinese dictionary, the Erya, glosses it with “鏤,鎪也”: 鏤 is another word for engraving. In Rhapsody on the Three Capitals, a poetic description of three cities by Zuo Si, 木無彫鎪 means “wood without carved decoration.” Dictionaries also record a second sense, “to corrode or erode,” as a surface wearing away.
Literary and specialist Chinese; it fits classical writing or technical descriptions of carving, not everyday conversation.
