What 鏊 means
A traditional griddle for flatbreads and thin pancakes.
In the Neolithic period, a three-legged, soot-marked pottery disk cooked food over heat. By the Song dynasty, 《广韵》 recorded 餅鏊. Pottery later gave way to bronze and iron, but the job stayed: heat dough or batter, then lift the sheet.
In a 2023 Shandong account, 鏊子 remains tied to regional jianbing, not every pan. 鏊砚 is a Song-dynasty inkstone shaped like it; Ming-dynasty 鏊盤上螞蟻 means restless and unable to settle.
Regional and culinary; outside food contexts, it looks like a rare technical character.
Use it for the griddle, not every pan.

2Questions people ask
1Why does 鏊 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
