What 闳 means
A gate at a lane; later, broad, grand, or vast.
The Shuowen, an old Chinese dictionary, glosses 閎 as a gate at a lane or alley. Classical texts also use the word for a door, a doorstop, vastness, and “the gate of the nine heavens.”
闳 is the simplified form of 閎; both are written forms of the same character.
Literary and historical; outside names and set expressions, 闳 reads as specialized rather than everyday.
Do not replace 闳 with 宏: overlapping broad or grand senses do not make them the same character.
