What 陖 means
It means steep or high, and can also mean severe.
The earliest record of 陖 is in the Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary. It analyzes 阜 as terrain and 夋 as sound.
Later classical citations use 陖 for a severe-punishment sense and in a pavilion name at Fengyi, a historical Chinese place-name.
Classical and lexicographic.
For ordinary writing, use 峻.

Questions people ask
1Why does 陖 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
