What 霚 means
It is a variant spelling of 霧, the character for fog.
The Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi (說文解字), compiled around 100 CE, defines 霚 as ground vapor rising without rain from above; 霿 is descending sky moisture associated with gloom.
Duan Yucai's Qing-dynasty commentary says later texts mix 霚, 霿, 霧, and 雺. 霧 also describes gauzy fabric, haze, gloom, or dense, dispersed gatherings.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
