What 鞾 means
It means “boots” and is a variant of 靴.
The Shuowen, an early Chinese character dictionary, calls 鞾 a kind of 鞮, an older word for leather footwear. It explains the character as 革 (“leather”) plus 華 as a sound clue.
Later lexicons use 靴 as the standard form and preserve a tradition linking boots to northern-style riding clothes adopted under King Wuling, ruler of the ancient state of Zhao.

That square usually means your font or app cannot display 鞾. It is a fallback for a missing glyph, not part of the character; a font with CJK coverage should display it.
