What 韪 means
It means “right” or “proper.”
Early texts use 韙 as a verdict of right: the Shuowen glosses it as “是也,” and the Zuo Tradition writes that the lord of Xi “犯五不韙” before attacking Zheng. Alone 韪 sounds classical; after 不 it flips to wrong, and 韙 is the traditional form of 韪.
Literary and classical; modern use lives in fixed idioms.
In 不韪, 韪 means “right”; 不韪 means “wrong.”
