What 飐 means
It means to sway or flutter in the wind.
飐 is the simplified form of 颭, a wind-radical character with 占 supplying the sound. Its job is descriptive: wind making waves or objects quiver. A Western Han attribution, Liu Xin's 遂初赋, uses 飐飐 for wind in motion. The original Shuowen does not record 颭; it appears in the Northern Song newly added material of the large recension.
Later classical examples use it for river waves, flags, and embroidered banners. The meaning therefore broadens from wind moves waves to wind-driven swaying or fluttering more generally, while staying physical and descriptive.
Someone sent me 飐—what does it mean?
Usually, it names wind-driven motion rather than a feeling.
If someone sent you 飐 alone, treat it as a rare literary word or a fragment of a quotation, not a standard reaction. Ask for the surrounding phrase before assigning a personal meaning.
In simplified-script writing it appears as 飐; traditional-script writing uses 颭 for the same word. As of 2026, a Taiwanese character-database comparison also records a dialectal sense of traditional 颭 for a capable person; that is a side reading, not the default.
Literary and uncommon in ordinary chat; it suits descriptive prose, poetry, dictionaries, or a deliberately classical voice.
Sent alone, it does not reliably mean “I’m swaying” or flirtation; ask for context.

1Why does 飐 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
