What 騻 means
A written form in a classical horse name for a fine horse.
The Zuo Zhuan, an early Chinese chronicle, says in the entry for Duke Ding's third year that two horses called 肅爽 were brought to the state of Chu. Later dictionaries connect that name with 驌騻 and gloss it as a fine or renowned horse.
騻 combines the horse radical 馬, which marks the subject, with 爽, which supplies its sound. The same horse name has three recorded spellings: 驌騻, 驌驦, and 肅爽.
It carries a classical, literary register; outside a horse-name or historical context, using it reads as deliberate.
爽 is a different character outside its role in the alternate spelling 肅爽.
