What 鷯 means
The compound tells you which bird. The old Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi was submitted in 121 CE; it parses 鷯 as bird component 鳥 plus sound component 尞, and gives 刀鷯/鳭鷯 for a bird that splits reeds to eat insects.
The Zhuangzi, an ancient Chinese philosophical text, uses 鷦鷯’s one-branch nest to picture contentment. Zhang Hua’s Western Jin poem 鷦鷯賦 contrasts its modest needs with grand birds serving people.
Cantonese references, as of 2026, use 鷯哥/了哥 for a myna that mimics bird and human voices. Standard written Chinese uses 八哥 or 鴝鵒 for that bird; bare 鷯 is too broad to mean myna.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
